visit a buddhist temple (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 16 months ago

I visited a Buddhist temple/wat a month and a half ago… I wanted to see what it was like. It was just a room full of statues. No weird, spiritual feeling or anything, honestly, I just felt sad that people would bow down to these idols and worship them, give them money, sacrifice to a statue. The only God I’ve ever known to actually DO something in my life, the only one that I can have an actual relationship with, is the ONE TRUE GOD. God almighty. All else is a statue or a man-made god.

It was an interesting experience, all-in-all.

Embrace your culture

The culture of Buddhism is older then the times of Jesus. Buddhism isn’t really a religion where you worship any1, i am guessing you are Cambodian and your parents instill the belief of the god Ka’non (cant spell it :P). You can choose not to worship kan’non as this contradicts God as the creator and almighty, but don’t bash the culture. These are the customs especially Cambodians believe for over 2000 years. People’are not really ‘worshipping’ the statue of Buddha, they bow as a sign of respect and perform the custom because it is all they have known passed down through the generations. Your life can be enriched by the principles of Buddhism and still follow God’s word.

I am actually not Cambodian, but I have been there and spent a good amount of time living among the people, etc.
I do not mean to “bash the culture” in any way. In fact, I enjoyed the culture very much and wish to go back and live life with them again… I believe everyone can learn valuable life lessons from Cambodians.

But I don’t agree that they don’t worship Buddha, they do.
1) wor·ship: reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred.
2)Buddhism is a religion, no matter what anyone says, it is…
3) Worship is what you spend your time on, your money, your thoughts… worship is bowing down. Worship is offering.
You RESPECT what you worship… I saw altars or shrines, or whatever you wish to call them, in every place I went into.

Just because it is “part of culture” or just because someone’s believed something for over 2000 years doesn’t make it right… doesn’t justify. If I spent my life worshiping God because my parents passed it down to be from their parents, grandparents, etc, then it would be the same with me… I would be wrong.

Buddhism does embrace a few things I do find valuable to life… that don’t contradict God’s word or anything from what I’ve seen… Like being gentle, and kind… peaceful.
I love it.
