be able to tell stories
Telling Stories 4 years ago

I love the ability that some people have where they can tell and coherent, interesting, exciting story or ancedote. I want to be able to do this with praticed skill and ease and not feel awkward or that people are losing interest halfway through. I guess this is kind of a variation of the old public speaking thing. Well I guess I should find/buy that book that I read once “The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking” by Dale Carneige or maybe someother books by him. He seemed pretty cool

Hi Adrians. I think that you’re taking the first step to telling stories here… It’s wonderful to see someone who is a talented storyteller. I try to read and listen as much as I can to excellent storytellers and I hope that it will somehow be absorbed into me and then it will start to become part of me. Maybe it’s watching and emulating and then letting your own voice emerge.

stories

This is a good goal to have. I remember when I was little my dad could tell stories that would entertain us all. Lots of different topics and different times.

I don’t seem to have that ability right now but I can remember him telling stories so that is a nice memory.

It is something that would be nice if more people could do it.

your photos are awsome—I think there are stories there. When you are passionate about something the storytelling will come! (sometimes using your hands helps!)

Storytelling

I like reading in your 43 things. You have a great way with words. I get a smile when I read them, so if you can wrap your mind around the words and get them out of your month, I think you’ll do fine.

Holding Court is what my best friend calls it when I get going and then tells me I have to meet more new people so they can hear my old stories.

Another public speaking resource

Is Toastmasters. They offer classes and clubs to help people become better public speakers.

I would also recommend working on one story and telling it to everyone you know. Then you get to practice and fine tune it based on people’s responses.
My boyfriend has a really great story that I have been encouraging him to tell everyone we meet, and it gets better every time.
