Figure out how to communicate with people so they understand what I'm saying (read all 3 entries…)
one sub-goal 4 years ago

work hard to get to the point when speaking and writing.

people don’t always need the background information, yet don’t start in the middle of a thought assuming the listener knows what you’re talking about.

how to accomplish this?

maybe think out what i’m going to say before i say it … WHEN i’m having trouble figuring out how to convey it.

or stay silent.

Let it out

Do not stay silent: I’ve tried it, it doesn’t work. It just means you get thoughts running round in circles in your head.

By all means work on conciseness; but don’t go overboard like me and leave such big gaps that people can’t follow the reasoning.

I know what you mean

Someone who knows me, could come up with better percentages … it seems like a third of the time I’m articulate; another third, I’m dramatically weaving a story, the point getting lost or forgotten; another third, speaking in “half-thoughts” ... or as you say leaving ”... big gaps that people can’t follow …”

when I was thinking “stay silent,” it was that maybe the thought is extraneous … doesn’t add anything to the conversation. also, if i’m having trouble formulating a thought, maybe it’s not the right time to convey it. maybe i need time to let go of the thought and let it purcolate subconsciously. then when i’m feeling articulate, speak it or write it down.

i’m not one to simply stay silent and never convey something.

usually all those thoughts running around in my brain are when i have trouble conveying. speaking/writing it would be a Jackson Pollack painting.

No hurry

I think I now understand what you meant, and I have to agree: Either finish thinking the thought then say it so that it makes sense, or let it go for a while.

ellie has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
