Adrian ever changing like a butterfly

go to another 5 of the 50 best restaurants (read all 8 entries…)
Eat more? 4 years ago

I have managed to go to a few of these already but I would like to go to more.

2. THE FAT DUCK, Bray
8. RESTAURANT GORDON RAMSAY, London
15. THE WATERSIDE INN, Bray
24. THE IVY, London
33. Le Jardin des Sens, Montpellier
49. THE WOLSELEY, London

(Hey they look like good lottery numbers)

I think my order would be:

33. Le Jardin des Sens, Montpellier
8. RESTAURANT GORDON RAMSAY, London
2. THE FAT DUCK, Bray
15. THE WATERSIDE INN, Bray
24. THE IVY, London
49. THE WOLSELEY, London

Because I am not a millionaire yet I have tended to eat the Lunch set menu (which tends to be around £30 a head) but super value and delicious.

I should also take photos and write reviews for web based consumption.

I think this will be harder now that I don’t have somebody special to go with but just because it is harder does mean impossible.

The list is here:
http://www.restaurantmagazine.co.uk/?ref=/news.asp&id=903

I am guessing that there might be a new list soon.

I think the ones in London/England might be easier. Lets try to go to:

3. El Bulli, Spain
7. NOBU, London
16. ST JOHN, London
21. THE MERCHANT HOUSE, Ludlow
41. RIVER CAFÉ, London

Comments:

YUMMY! I LOVE eating at good restaurants

Because of my work (entertain clients a lot), I get to go to a lot of these and eat well (I feel really lucky about this)

Have eaten at Nobu and don’t really rate it. There are far more fantastic sushi restaurants in the Lower East Side of NYC that cost a mere fraction of Nobu prices and taste MUCH better.

Fat Duck = wow.

Wolesley = boring, stuffy rich people thinking they are cool wanting to see and be seen. Staff was abominable.

The Ivy = bummed out that the only celeb I saw was the daughter in Roseanne. The food is not even worth mentioning.

Sketch = atmosphere fantastic, food, well, I can only remember the atmosphere. I’m sure it wasn’t bad food, because I would remember that. But the atmosphere is so much better.

Boxwood Cafe, Berkeley Hotel = That was fantastic. Gordon Ramsay himself was sitting in the lobby in his chef’s gear talking about the menu with his sous chef

You are very lucky - I have to pay :-(

I wish I got to entertain clients (or even better had vendors entertain me) but alas it is not the case.

So agree with your Ivy and Wolesley comments – did you see in the Standard that the Ivy is no longer number in London (according to Harden’s guide) – it has been replaced by Chez Bruce.

Just sorted with my parents about going to Le Manoir du Quatre Saison in November for my birthday (a big one – ulp!)

Ahhh -- scorpio!

My birthday is also november—13th. When’s yours?

Yummy to your bday treat. My parents are too far away for such things but will definitely have a very nice, juicy steak at the Golden Ox when I’m back in Kansas City next week! Not as upmarket as Le Manoir due Quatre Saison, but still very, very yummy!

I haven’t tried Chez Bruce. Have reservations at Morgan M’s for a friend’s welcome back party (just moved back from San Francisco). This will be nice cuz I won’t be with a bunch of people I don’t know very well. (down side of entertaining clients—you’d really rather be having those experiences with people you care about!)

'fraid not I am Sagatarius

My birthday is 27th November.

I am very excited about going to see Raymond – he is one of my fave chefs. I have love him ever since going to Petit Blanc whilst a student and having the best rib of beef ever.

The Golden Ox is a great name for a restaurant – I have been to a golden goat in the south of france that was rather fab. Well it was called Chevre d’Or which sounds much better but means the same…

Mmm must go back to the South of France someday.

Have fun in Kansas.
