Reach 50 days of abstinence from compulsive overeating. (read all 9 entries…)
Day 31 10 months ago

All my adult life I have had eating disorders and I have struggled to find some balance in my life. With the help of OA I have come to terms with alot of the underlying issues that have caused me to act insanely around food, but the physical cravings still persisted. Now I want to beat that too and this is the only way to do it. I have already achieved my first goal of 30 days so this is the next one!

For physical

cravings, I found that it was due to allergies/intolerances I had to certain types of food.

I’d recommend getting a full food allergy testing done. Yorktest do one where they post out the pack to you and you post it back. It costs, but is worth EVERY penny!

Good idea

I know I have problems with sugar and I am glucose intolerant. I have always craved sugar too so there has to be something in that! Thanks for the advice!

Good for You!

Congratulations on 30 days and best wishes on reaching 50! Achieving emotional wellbeing is so important as well, so kudos for that too!

I'm not sure how effective...

..white-knuckling it is as a way to counteract cravings. By seeing it as how long you’ve “resisted”, you are still focussing on the food and giving it power over you. Just something to ponder. I’ve always found the OA idea of “accepting your powerlessness over food” rather damaging – if you accept/decide that you will never be well, how will you ever heal? But then again I am beset with food issues myself, and I’m on an ongoing journey to figure them out, so who am I to advise?!

In the interests of healing my own relationship with food and my body, I’ve spent quite a lot of time lately looking into programs that treat emotional eating and all kinds of food issues in new and innovative ways. If you’re interested, I’d be delighted to point you at a some websites and online groups that I think you might find useful in your journey.

Relating to what weallareone said about allergies and intolerances, I happen to know that Yorktest have a sale on at the moment, so it’s worth checking them out soon if you’d like to explore that avenue.

I know...

...that the OA concept can be hard to grasp, but believe me it has helped me more than I can say when dealing with my emotional eating. I am not really white-knuckling it at all – honest! I am learning a way to live where I treat my body with more respect and at the end of every day I know I have lived in a far healthier way than I used to. The urge to overeat is minimised the longer I remain abstinent and I always know that it is MY choice to treat myself well or to turn back to my ‘disease’ and overeat.
I think we all havr to do what feels right for us and this way is working very well for me.
Thank you for taking the time to write and good luck with your own food issues.

Fabulous.

Of course everyone should do whatever is best for them and I am delighted it’s working so well for you! Long may it continue, and congratulations.

PS..

I’m not actually focusing on the food at all. When I eat compulsively my mind is constantly focused on food, but this way my mind is left free to focus on other healthier areas of my life!

Brilliant.

Maybe I misunderstood what you wrote. I’m glad you’ve found something that suits you so well.

This is fabulous!

You should be so proud of yourself! I’d love to hear some of what you’ve learned on this journey. Keep going!!

Great Job!!!!

It is incredible that you are trying to do this but remember even after those 50 days are over you need to keep on your journey! on the 51st day you should eat exactly like you did on day 1! great job i wish you the best of luck!!

Absolutely!

This is a lifestyle change and not just something that will finish at the end of a certain amount of time. When I reach Day 50 I will keep going till Day 75 and so on!
Thank you very much for your comments and good wishes!
Anne :)
