Argh it’s Wednesday again! Why did I let CC talk me into that Be Healthier goal ;) Quick, pass the coffee…

  • work: need to be more productive today and get Fiends July accounts done done!
  • should I bother having a battle with the DP over where I eat my lunch? She wants us all to have lunch in the kitchen whereas I like having it at my desk (like we all have done for the past 2 years), and object to being told where I can and can’t have lunch. On the other hand we have been getting on ok lately so it might be a generous gesture to let it go, as I can always go to the kitchen, eat lunch, then go back to my desk for the rest of the lunch hour. Grrr! emailed the big boss, he’s going to talk to us about it tomorrow
  • daily clicks
  • 1 hour tai chi done!
  • 1 hour Bodypump (in fact it’s just as well for the Be Healthier goal as otherwise every week I’d be dropping out of this) oh dear. I skived. It’s just too much, doing that and tai chi on the same night, will definitely go on Tuesday next week
  • go and see G who is working from home today so will probably be in need of my scintillating company

Why

does she want you to eat in the kitchen? Is she trying to force socializing on the employees? Or she doesn’t want you to get crumbs in the keyboard? Does this mean there can’t be any snacking at the desk, or is it only discrimination against major meals at the desk?

As a dedicated eater-in-front-of-my-computer, I think I would fight this one. It’s not a minor concession: it’s a way of life, dammit!! :-)

basically

a. she has a thing about it – she personally likes to get away from her desk and seems to think that the rest of us should too, and b. one of my colleagues from time to time spills stuff on paperwork, and another colleague who is sitting next to him in the new office finds him a bit disgusting – so it seems that the DP has agreed with the big boss that all of us have to have lunch in the kitchen!

Of course meanwhile everyone is drinking coffee, eating biscuits/chocolate etc. at their desk which is just as likely to create spillage as lunch. It’s so petty, and I really object to being bossed about like this by her, so thanks for your support on this! Apparently it’s going to be discussed with the team tomorrow so in the meantime I’m eating lunch at my desk today.

Silvie is thinking good thoughts for Sadie

Isn't it a basic human right

to lunch at your desk…how else can you be expected to check 43T (legally) in working hours?

I think people should be able to choose what they want to do – better for morale all round.

thanks Silvie

it’s good to get your view on it. I feel bolstered now to take my argument to the boss (who always lunches at his desk) tomorrow!

argh! it's a huge can of worms!

nice colleage Z has just called (it’s her day off today but I emailed her about it) and apparently it’s coming from the Chief Exec as well as the DP. He thinks it looks unprofessional for us to have lunch at our desks! WTF????

Am compiling long list of reasons why I’m not happy about it. Apparently one of our other bosses doesn’t like it either, so there may be some wiggle-room.

Am right behind you!

As a life long believer in eating at my desk and that’s not just lunch but snacks, coffee, other beverages, etc etc all I can say is WTF??!

Do you think that this DP wants you all to leave your desk because it makes her look or feel bad for leaving her desk?

You know by eating at your desk even though you may not be doing anything work related at all – it makes those higher in the ranks think you are and more dedicated for not leaving for something as unimportant as lunch?

I think she has personal reasons for this plan of attack!

WTF, indeed!

There is nothing more professional-looking than someone who is -checking 43T- working so hard that they can’t even leave their desk to eat.

Of course, if coffee and snacks are still allowed at the desk, you could give up official noon meals, and slowly eat your lunch piece by piece over the course of the day, as a series of “snacks”.

wren is TGFS.

Oh, no!

These people who try to force lunchtime socialization are just too horrible for words! Good luck to you on this one, SL!
