I’m a bit of a “caretaker” for 2 elderly aunts right now but will eventually (probably around 2010) take “early retirement” from my job at a large Great Lakes retailer, possibly to go into business for myself or else live a life of leisure.

Book on retirement
Thought I would go ahead and post my comments to people who were reading. One of my goals
Yesterday.
Eagan and Wagner. Basics Retiring (Barnes and Nobel)
Probably something you are not concerned with yet. I am still trying to figure it out. I bought this book some time ago. Great photographs of pretty young looking retired people, a lot about retiring before 55, and not really any new information. How fixed pensions are on their way out, so rely on IRA type things, social security and hey….maybe you better keep on drawing a check from some kind of work, preferably part time.
Best places to move, if that is what you want to. For Collins seems to dominate.Health ? ...what else is new, stop smoking, exercise and eat veggies and fruit..and drink a lot of water.
Volunteer…..wow…shelve books in library, push people around in hospitals, tutor low performing kids….not especially exciting, but keeps you occupied.
The travel with groups photo iw not too appealing…..straw hat, Hawii shirt, baggy shorts, socks with soft shoew..brown, and the buy is grinning and holidng a nondigital camera.
No, I don’t recommend this book.
I a thinking about writing my own, and starting with how you deal with the realizetion that there is no such thing as “retirement” what there is is unemployments.
