but i’m in the same position as you. I’m not sure what I want to study when I leave school. Some of my family want me to go straight away to uni, some think I should have a gap year. Some think I shouldn’t do computer science because a lot of people who work in that industry are ‘weird’ or spend a lot of time alone, some want me to be a journalist because i’ve had quite a few things published, but others say no, it doesn’t pay very well.

And for those who are still figuring all that out, what are you plans? I kinda like what I’ve been doing for the last 6 or 7 years. I’ve been working my way up through the company I work for by learning every aspect of the business and getting lots of exposure. It means I sometimes end up with shitty responsibilities but more often I get to do really cool stuff. Plus, I get to change jobs often without looking like a loser on my resume (because its in the same company). That suits my “workplace ADD” just fine.

i read that you shouldnt decide what your major is going to be when you’re a freshman in college because then you put all sorts of pressure on yourself and you might end up changing your mind and all that stuff. but im not really sure, since im only going to be a junior. good luck though. (:

No, because my parents never wanted me to do a “low education” job. I learned to do what I want to do and not care about what my parents think I should do.

Absolutely!

What’s your career? Activist and writer, for my day job I operate heavy machinery.
Is that what you planned on doing when you were younger? Yep but I make no money on the career side of things the day job I was semi-interested in when I was quite young but never as the road I’d travel through most of my life.
Do you like your job? Yeah it’s alright, I get to be an activist for the union and big machines tearing up the dirt do something to a man’s soul that I’d have missed otherwise.
And for those who are still figuring all that out, what are you plans? I’m not sold on doing my job forever, I have a book to finish and then try to get published. My union lacks rank and file fighters to radicalize and consolidate the membership so as long as I work there this will be my challenge.

What’s your career? I don’t really have one. Currently I have three part-time jobs. I work at a toy store (meh) and a hair salon (whatev), and I volunteer at a theatre (love).

Is that what you planned on doing when you were younger? Not a chance. Well, the theatre stuff, yes. Although I had planned on being an actress, lol.

Do you like your job? Not at the moment. I don’t get enough hours at my paying jobs to pay off my student loans and pay rent, so I’m currently living with my mother. I don’t feel challenged at all at work and I don’t feel like I’m being appreciated or noticed for all the work I’m doing. The salon is a new job so I have no idea how I’m doing there since I’m only going into my second shift tomorrow. I LOVE my work at the theatre, but unfortunately it doesn’t pay.

And for those who are still figuring all that out, what are you plans? I used to work for Disney and I’d love to go back and work for them again. Living in Canada makes it a bit challenging. Ideally I’d like to to travel the world and work in many different theatres doing many different jobs. I love to perform, and I’d love working as an entertainment host. I like travel and tourism and wouldn’t mind working at some different resorts around the world (mainly to take advantage of the amenities, haha). I also enjoy teaching and working with kids as well, but I have no desire to go to teachers college and work in a school doing traditional lessons and stuff. How’s that for a glaring contradiction.

Clearly, I’m still figuring things out.

What’s your career? I have a pseudo-career as a freelance graphic designer, and I am also what some people refer to as a “homemaker”.

Is that what you planned on doing when you were younger?
Kind of, some of the time. Other times I thougth I was going to be something more ingenius.

I love doing graphic design, and I am working on making it more of a career for me than a sometimes job. I also enjoy staying at home much of the time.

Getting my website together and having some business cards made so that I can actually grab opportunities when they come. I also want to write and illustrate a book, and see where that takes me.

Is that what you planned on doing when you were younger? Pretty much, yeah, I’ve always been really good at programming.
Do you like your job? I really do, yeah, it’s boring at times, and would be better if I wasn’t the only person working on some projects, but I do enjoy it.
And for those who are still figuring all that out, what are you plans? Well, I still have plans – even though I love my job, I’m going to go travelling for 8+ months at the end of the year, and see where the world leads me. Would be easier if I did hate my job, but there you go, life and opportunities wait for nothing.

Is that what you planned on doing when you were younger? Oh heck no. I didn’t know such a thing existed. I often get the too ‘A’s in the profession mixed up.

Do you like your job? Actually I do, I’m new at it but I do like it. I couldn’t say that a couple months ago and then my boss changed my profile and promoted me. So where I am right now is good for now and I’m happy.

And for those who are still figuring all that out, what are you plans? Though I like (almost said love) m job it’s not what I’d like to do for the rest of my life. So I’m on that path of figuring it out too. For me there are number of things I’d like to accomplish it’s just…in which order!

P.S: ALWAYS choose something you enjoy doing. Don’t go into something because of the standard set in your society, etc… you’d be miserable in time to come. Do something you love and you’d work less than all of us for the year. Good Luck!
