and am always thrilled to cheer it. However, I cannot adopt it because I owe the Baltimore County Public Library $187.00 (or so) dollars. I think the Harford Country Public Library has a WANTED: Delinquent Borrower poster with my picture up at every branch location. There is always the Baltimore City brand—The Enoch Pratt Free Library, but I feel so much guilt at this point over the dozens (possibly even hundreds) of books/movies/albums I have checked out and promptly lost, misplaced or merely forgotten to ever return, that I don’t think I could ever bring myself to use my fake ID to get a library card. I do believe I should be banned for life from all libraries. And I’ve found that it’s much less expensive for me, in the long-term, to simply buy the damn books.

you could go to a secondhand bookshop (or even better, something sterile like borders, you’ll really be messing with people there!) and leave notes in books that you aren’t buying, so you have no chance of losing them but still get the joy of random note-leaving!

a Lion among house cats, my dear meowzilla. I do have a favorite used bookstore, but they know me and watch me closely because I tend to reorganize the Women’s Studies, Philosophy and General Reference Sections. (Can you believe they don’t have an Etiquette section?! I couldn’t, so I made one.) I think they think I am shoplifting? Either way, they think me odd.
I might do Borders/B&N because those books could use some SOUL, as you suggested.
