wake up when my alarm clock goes off (read all 20 entries…)
27 August STAY VERTICAL 10 months ago

Not today. Not too far after, but still didn’t get up right away. I usually fall right back into bed after hitting the alarm and lie awake for a few minutes before drifting off again and procceding to groggily hit the snooze for several minutes. I just need to get up to shut the alarm off and just stay up. Maybe chug some juice or something. Perhaps tonight I will write STAY VERTICAL on an index card and tape it to the alarm clock.

This week

I champion STAYING HORIZONTAL in the a.m. with the realisation that after Labour Day, it’s all over ‘til next July.
(Great wracking virtual sobs)

there, there, Rat

You stay horizontal, sleeping all snuggly with the knowledge that somewhere to the south, petrnotail is veritcal. we bring balance to the world.

(errr had to edit this post… i guess i got confused from being so vertical…)

Didn't

Sylvia Plath write a poem about being horizontal (but she would rather be vertical)?

petrnotail we haven't located us yet

it would seem so

I Am Vertical

But I would rather be horizontal.
I am not a tree with my root in the soil
Sucking up minerals and motherly love
So that each March I may gleam into leaf,
Nor am I the beauty of a garden bed
Attracting my share of Ahs and spectacularly painted,
Unknowing I must soon unpetal.
Compared with me, a tree is immortal
And a flower-head not tall, but more startling,
And I want the one’s longevity and the other’s daring.

Tonight, in the infinitesimal light of the stars,
The trees and the flowers have been strewing their cool odors.
I walk among them, but none of them are noticing.
Sometimes I think that when I am sleeping
I must most perfectly resemble them—
Thoughts gone dim.
It is more natural to me, lying down.
Then the sky and I are in open conversation,
And I shall be useful when I lie down finally:
Then the trees may touch me for once, and the flowers have time for me.
