Learn to promote myself as an artist (read all 2 entries…)
Artist promotion 4 years ago

I am a few months from completing my BFA at RIT. I’m taking a class that is newly required for fine art students; Business practices. With this I hope to learn how to approach the world and present myself as an artist. I want to find the drive to push myself into the art world as a sculptor.

The image is a steel piece I made last spring in a welding class. It has a small companion which is currently in the Senior Fine Art show at Gallery R. I’m taking a second welding class and am making more strange creatures to add to the strange jumbled collection.

YOU GO!

I myself am in the same boat! It’s a tough thing (especially if you live in a little bitty ‘blink and you miss it’ kind of town).. but go for it! I’m cheerin ya!

Art

Remember that you create your art for YOU. Anyone else lucky enough to experience it should enjoy it just as much.
My advice? Contact your favorite NON STARBUCKS cafe or coffee house. Ask them if they’d consider you holding your launch there:) In return, you can do all of the flyering/advertising and bring in loads of people (maybe even find an acoustic performer or musician of some kind to compliment your showing). It could be a very intimate occassion, and you can get your name out and your art seen. I’ve also seen such events held at Tattoo Parlors!

Good Luck!

Great idea! I’m sure my prof wouldn’t have thought to suggest something like that. We have a coffee house on campus full of art, I should submit some there. I will definitely have to write this idea down. I like the intimate and comfortable space idea much better than the space in a gallery. Galleries are so ‘no touch, no talking’; sterile.

Thanks for the idea!
