Stop smoking cigarettes
I've done this before...

When I was pregnant (3 times), I always could just quit cold turkey and was able to stick to it (the smell nauseated me).

Also, when involved in a 9-year relationship with a non-smoking man, I didn’t smoke.

I supposed I’d describe myself as an “on-and-off” smoker.

Right now, I’d like to be “off.”

It’s bad for my health and it’s bad for potential dating possibilities. Most men don’t want to date a smoker.

as of the writing of this entry, I’m resisting going to the store to buy a pack.

Comments:

So what happened? did you stop?

I’ve not tried a cigarette yet, but i’m looking to do so soon. I really enjoy the smell of fresh cigarette smoke – strange but true. like with anything i would like to try the best so that i’m not disappointed.

can you give me any tips as you seem to start and stop which i think is the way i would like to operate – only in moderation and not have them in control of me.

please don't...

Some people can stop more easily than others. But as you see, Euterpe started up again after her pregnancy.

The thing is, many smokers are genetically unable to quit, or have a great deal of difficulty doing so. So you don’t get to choose whether you can quit or not – your genes do.

The smell of cigarettes may be appealing- it’s designed to be – but it is actually quite toxic.

I could go on! But you are a smart person, and I know you will do the right thing.

thanks for your comment. i have done some research on the subject of toxicity of cigarette products – some seem more toxic than others. Sulphur is one element I personally don’t want to inhale. This is found in the paper which keeps the cigarette burning. I have found that certain roll up papers contain none. Pure tobacco that has been unmolested smells so much more appealling than pre-packed cigarettes.

some people get addicted to alcohol. i enjoy wine but in moderation. same with coffee, i have a cup a day, but i have heard that some cases people can overdose on coffee. i feel i could enjoy cigarettes in moderation too so that i can enjoy combining them with other pleasures.

i really want to enjoy my first cigarette, if i don’t i will not continue. surely i can not get addicted to 1? this subject really needs full investigation before i commence.

much worse than wine or coffee

OK, a few facts to consider:

-The nicotine in cigarettes is deliberately manipulated to make them highly addictive so that you will buy more

-No one dies from a few cups of coffee a day. If anyone dies from OD’ing on coffee, it’s probably about 2 per year. Compare that to tobacco: hundreds of thousands per year, easy – in fact,

-smoking of tobacco products of any kind is the leading preventable cause of death. Even small amounts can be harmful.

-Even if some tobacco products seem more toxic than others, they are all EXTREMELY toxic to begin with, so the distinctions are probably minor

-Sulfur in some form is in many of the foods you eat every day

-I’m more worried about what happens when you DO enjoy your first cigarette, because it may not be long after that that you are addicted. I think it’s safer not even to try it.

Here’s some more good info for you:

moderation is the key with anything

new reports have shown that some coffee houses have levels of caffeine that could kill certain people – that is a worry! these places are not moderated.

tobacco companies have to keep to limits – not sure if it trust them, but then do you trust any big company?

pre-packed cigarettes are molested tobacco products – i want to try the natural products, ones with no added chemicals, tobacco straight from the plantation. it is out their.

sulphur is in food – food dosen’t go into your lungs!

just like some others on 43things i am will to learn everything about the subject first before trying!
