Today my anxiety levels were really high and I was compulsive and obsessive like I haven’t been in ages but I know the reason why – I stopped taking my meds because I thought I could cope – when will I learn??

little experiments

The experiment worked though, because now you know.

Very true!

I guess the answer to my question is that I have learned NOW! Thank you for your comment and good luck with all your goals!

getting ones goals

Its so healthy to have a set of goals and to be accomplishing them. Cheering others is probably just about healthiest thing anyone can do. But the pressure to be “med free” in our culture is pretty intense. It isn’t the right thing for everyone but even those of us who use medications for whatever, thyroid disorders, diabetes, heart disease, pain, we all want to reduce or eliminate the use. Our culture discourages the use of cigarrets(nicotine) while we advertise encourage and expect people to use coffee and alcohol(sort of, but not so much anymore). So there is lots of pressure to experiment with stopping meds and taper off and cut down. I think its because deep down, people don’t really trust meds. We trust our bodies to make things right.
I have a health plan that actively tries to get people to take yoga, has exercise programs, and uses lots of “group” counseling classes. Part of the reason for that is that there are lots of people here in Hawaii that are morbidly obese and so there is a super high rate of Diabetes here. I talked to my doctor about weight at one point and asked how in the world to lose weight. I was hoping for some magic pill. He said, “Just lose weight”. So I actually did and it worked. My cholesterol went down. But it was hard.
Anyway, the desire to attempt to go off meds or cut down is totally understandable. Hopefully the doctors that you work with are willing to help you try alternatives if possible and if not, then just take the ones that are needed. Maybe talk to the doctor about reducing them and what else to try.

Thank you so much

Thank you for all you have said. You are so right when you say that there is pressure to be med free, although there are also Drs who would have you take a dozen pills rather than try to cure what is wrong with you in a more natural way! I have already turned down pills to reduce my cholesterol as they had side-effects that were actually worse than high cholesterol and mine wasn’t even that high! I am accepting that I need this small dose of anti-depressant and I do things to help myself feel better too as I can’t rely solely on a daily pill. I would love to live in somewhere sunny and warm like Hawaii too as I am sure that would put more of a smile on my face than living in dull, rainy England!! :) Take care and thank you for all that you said…. xxx

X24 just got seasons 1&2 of The Office! Yay!

Isn't that annoying?

I used to be on meds (long story) and I know how frustrating it is when you think “hey, I’m perfectly fine, I don’t need these stupid things anymore” and then you quickly discover that the reason you feel fine is because you’re taking them.
Then you have to accept that your doctor is right after all, darn it.

Spot on!

That’s just how it was – I know better now though (I hope!) and will remember that the reason I feel okay is because I am actually taking the meds!! Thanks for your comment :)
