NOT HAVE CANCER (read all 15 entries…)
Margins clear 15 months ago

Whew.
Of course, the surgical fellow made a mistake and told me they were clear, but they’d still need to re-excise some tissue, because there was DCIS in the margins…I broke into a sweat, everywhere, even behind the knees.

Turns out she had misread the pathology report, and I won’t need new surgery.

BUT, the tumor (being that cancer is irregular, and reaches out like fingers) had a finger that extended out to 2.5 cm and I think, from what I know, that this might place me in the candidacy for chemotherapy…but I’m not sure yet as I have a long while to meet with the oncologist yet.

I have a month to heal, then another mammogram (grrr) and re-evaluation with the surgeon, and yadda yadda yadda.

This is my life, now, I suppose.
Not the best news ever, but not as bad as it could have been.
I’ll take it.

it's sounding celebratory

maybe no chemo? You see how that “no” crept into the sentence?

Did you know there’s a winery in Emeryville? OT I know, and maybe we even mentioned it earlier. But it is a fun place for a toast to wellness.

And it is the crush…

There is?

I have to find it.
We normally find a wine we like and buy a case for “house” use, and then a fancier wine for gifts and company, etc for special occasions.

It’s been so long since we’ve been on a buying spree that we’ve run out, and our wine cabinet (tucked in a cool corner of the garage) is bare!!

Last night I was in the mood, but I did ok with a scoop of vanilla ice cream too :)

Periscope Cellars, I think

62nd St, West of Hollis. follow your nose…

Or maybe, are you ready for a trip to the north counties?

Adar is back.

You know Periscope Cellars?

One of the guys who runs it is a friend of my son’s. Small world. I’ve been meaning to go check it out myself.

you should!

It’s not only a cool place, but the people there are wonderful!

I found

there are a few wineries there, or at least it appears so.

There’s a Ravenswood winerly listed (though, I wonder if it’s just a tasting room) near the hotel off the freeway (I think it’s a Hilton) Just near the marina.

I love their Zin so I might wander over there to see what it is.

There are also a bunch listed in berkeley and oakland!

Yeah, not feeling great in the car…even the little jiggle of the uneven road surface hurts like crazy. I went out for pizza yesterday and ended up crossing my arms over my chest to brace myself.

Waiting for this pain to go away…it’s taking forever.

sorry that it's so rough

Dang. Are you staying in the East Bay or on the Other Side?

Adar is back.

Yow.

I’m so sorry it’s still hurting.

Cloudberry is a highly skilled migrant.

wow

“misread the pathology report” – see how shit like that can screw up your whole life? Yeah,it might have been her fault, but we need clear, standardized, not-prone-to-misreading pathology reports!

OK, health care quality rant over. Lisa, I’m so glad it came out fairly well for you!

Big hugs…

Well, yeah

in her defence, I have the path report and it is rather convoluted.

They took out a total of 4 lymph nodes, all of which were negative, but there was some mention of lymphovascular infiltration (somehow) and I don’t understand that when all 4 nodes were negative. She is a fellow, with several years general surgery experience, but she is around 30, so in my eyes, a baby.

Yeah, the news could have been much more serious, so I think (though I’m not entirely thrilled with it) There are a lot of people that would love to have results like this. They weren’t perfect, but they’re good results.

:)

Adar is back.

I know you are feeling cautious...

which is quite understandable, but I’m glad the results were as good as they were. Sorry about the mixup and the scare, though.

I’m so glad you keep posting here!

Taylor is trying to juggle two house payments.

Glad to hear

you won’t need more surgery. I’ll keep praying you don’t need chemo.

Your new picture looks great, BTW.

Thinking Of You

It’s been a couple weeks of healing now, and I hope that you are feeling better. Just know that you are constantly in my thoughts as I send healing energy your way.

Thank you, Todd

It’s been a month, and I’m surprised how long it takes for the pain to subside post-op.

I’m getting myself ready for the next part of this mess. I thought it would be radiation, but in fact, they do the chemo first.

I have to come to the decisions soon…it’s very hard.

Thank you for the support :)
