WRESTLE (read all 5 entries…)
Meeting

So, we had a meeting last night with the… I guess you could call him “talent coordinator/performer” right now. He was very straight up about all the positives and negatives answered all of our questions and more besides. He was clear that wrestling IS a risk, but we already knew that. If you’re trained well and careful you should be able to avoid injury. He went into ribbing, stiff work, helping with ring setup, all that. More importantly, he talked a lot about training.

We’ve got our first training session tomorrow before the show at Junctions. I’m pumped, a little nervous, but it seems like we’ll just be meeting people and learning the basics – front and back bumps, running the ropes, corners. Just need to bring workout gear (sneakers, track pants/shorts, t-shirt, and – if we can – knee pads).

I’m looking forward to it. I’ll probably hang around for an hour or so after the show, too, to help lug equipment and whatever roadie-type work needs doing.

So now I’ve got a few things to do.
1 – I need to join the gym and set up a workout schedule to work on my cardio and muscle mass.
2 – I need to start watching wrestling traininig videos and reading training books.
3 – I’m going to be studying ring psychology, storytelling, standard match construction and thinking of good variations. If I can, I’d like to help with booking even before I get to perform, just for the experience.

I can’t believe I’m actually doing this!
