Pretty good day

I also had the urge to drink earlier, but I kept thinking how bad I wanted to walk the dogs in the brisk fall air, and how I knew I would never do it if I had a buzz. Instead I cooked a nice healthy meal and did some things around the house. Now I’m getting ready to crawl in bed with the dogs and go to sleep.

I know that sounds boring, but I am SOOOOO excited to be saying that instead of “well first I went and had several beers with my friends, then I got the munchies and drove to some pizza place and picked up a huge greasy pizza, then I drove home drunk (eating pizza as I’m driving), then I text messaged the guy in Texas who just told me he has a girlfriend and called him a jerk, then I passed out, then I woke up hungover and wondered what the heck happened…..” You get the idea.

I am happy to say that I am alcohol free today, and it feels darn good!

Hang on to that excitement, it will help you move forward!!

Good for you!

The go to work walk the dogs etc day
sounds better than the drunk driving, pizza, and angry texting one

You can break out of the old habits and routines….

I found out a friend of mine dropped dead yesterday, work was moderately sucky and my baseball team is choking in the playoffs. . . all of which would have been good reasons to drown my sorrows, but I haven’t today.

All that stills sucks, but drinking would make the lows seem lower and I’d feel shitty the next day and that would perpetuate the cycle so I’d feel worse tomorrow and want to drink again even more

like you wrote alcohol is evil

keep it up!

Sorry Dakini

about your friend!

Thanks for your concern.

I think from your posts that we’re both the same age.

My friend was 60 and had a heart attack.

A mutual friend between our age and my late friend’s age was saying that in his 20s and 30s he lost a few friends but it was from tragic accidents or something unusual.

But now while in his 40s and 50s more people have died on him and it is “natural causes”. . . that’s a grim thought.

Glad to hear you’re doing so well with the horse riding!

You and QD4L ( or somebody else ) were trading comments about how good it was not to waste opportunities or something like that.

Reading stuff like that and having that guy die this week makes me think about how much time, money etc. wasted on drinking and other stupid crap.

That was the past, now to move in the present moment with this “precious human life” as they say….

My Condolences

I’m also sorry to hear about the loss of your friend dakini.

Bravo!!

You sound great and I am glad you are doing so well. I loved the way you compared sober life to the possibility of drinking instead. It is a great reminder to consider both sides and then decide which you want for yourself. Keep it up!!
