go to a movie by myself
Untitled 14 months ago

It’s telling that I don’t even remember which film I saw – even though it was at the Berlin film festival, so it should’ve been awesome. Weird. I can’t say whether this is because I was in quite a state during the entire experience (think: rabbit and headlights, or: shy girl at social dance, trying to look busy) or because there was nobody to share laughs or to whisper with, nudge, do excited film discussion afterwards. It’s good that I finally gathered the courage to go by myself, but I’d rather take my friends – and luckily, they’re as enthusiastic about movies as I am.

I totally agree that it is a very strange way to go to the movies, alone I mean.

I did it lots of time when I was younger and even though it’s a different experience I cannot say it was definetely bad for me.
For instance, there are many movies that most of my friends and colleagues wouldn’t even think of watching (and even less if they have to pay for it). So, sometimes, I think it’s a better choice than not seeing the movie you want.

The worst thing for me was at the end of the movie, when there was nobody there to chat about the film with.
The good think nowadays is that even if you go alone you can easily share it with anyone in the internet, forums and chats. Yes, it’s not the same as chating about the film in front of a coffe cup with your best friends, but can work also.

Well, at least you tried, huh? Well done!
