The paralegal I used for my divorce apparently forgot to file a form to return my maiden name. It was marked twice on the papers I submitted, but it didn’t get done on the final papers. I say they forgot to file a form because she has been giving me the royal run around now. Everyday she is waiting to hear from somebosy about best way to proceed, or whether we have to have a hearing. I am getting frustrated. Social Security changed my name, but I can’t get my driver’s license changed without the proper paperwork from the court. Why is it, that when you get married, you can automatically change your name, but when you get divorced, you have to have a judge “give” you back your maiden name??

I say all women who marry might consider keeping their family name!! I went through this four years ago. Even with my name change on the divorce decree, it takes forever to get it all done. My married name is still on my home mortgage. I wish you speedy success in getting the paralegal to do as you asked and expected. You do not need any more hassle!
It is a big hassle. I sometimes wonder if I shoul have bothered, but the truth is, I prefer my maiden name. It’s more of who I really am. So I’ll deal.
