In my world, no marriage/no kids is where it’s at, baby. I love living single and free, with a million hobbies to keep me busy. I think there are far more single women in our culture than ever before, and yet our language lacks positive words for naming us.
Hence, my fascination with the word “Spinster.” I made a whole website about it: www.spinsterspin.com. I love the word because it’s definite, it’s permanent, and it freaks people out. And I’m on a mission to make women aware of all the wonderful possibilities inherent in this lifestyle choice.
To that end, aside from the site, I’ve started a Spinster discussion forum on Tribe, a Spinster book club, and a Spinster podcast. So far, I’ve met a bunch of very cool, intelligent, and interesting women. Vive la Spinster!
