Grow my own Hedge Maze (read all 4 entries…)
Version Two 4 years ago

So, I realized that I may not have enough space to make a maze that is actually difficult to solve. So this attempt was to create merely a “Labyrinth”, i.e. a long twisty path rather than a maze with decision points.

But, it’s now clear that my idea of putting potted plants at pre-determined places within the maze is getting in the way of the design. So… time to erase them and start over.

Also, maybe what I need is some sort of “visual motif” – i.e. a small pattern, curve, or shape that is repeated throughout the maze to make it more visually appealing?

Small Boxwoods

I’m going to create a miniature maze in the traffic circle in the middle of our driveway. So I’ll probably use small, young boxwoods (which are less expensive than the older kind) to make up the maze.

But if you have two and a half acres, you could consider a life-size maze!

You drawing look like a simplified brain! laugh I love it! and who knows maybe you could charge admission to walk though it! =)

Just for fun:

Fun!

I love the blather maze.

Unfortunately, my maze will be miniature – so you won’t be able to walk through it. But it may be possible to pilot a remote-controlled car through it…?

Wow! Graphics!

I should have been more clear: this is merely a miniature decorative hedge maze to fill out the traffic circle in the middle of our driveway. It’s dimensions are only 9 feet by 10 feet, and people will easily see the whole thing from above.

But I think you have the right idea. This was the kind of labryinth I was thinking about – essentially two twisted spirals which one could simply follow with the eye as an amusement.

Michiel. is Michiel is Michiel is Michiel.

I thought this goal was doubleplusgood

so I adopted it.

Now to arrange for an insanely large back yard. Hmmmm…

As for design, maybe you can let Google images inspire you? Lots of pictures, although the slightly more snooty term ‘Topiary Labyrinth’ yields more design patterns. Flickr also has a nice collection.

edit: just noticed that 100% of the topiary labyrinth google hits come from this page
