Lunch with Friends Today 13 months ago

My friends Wayne and Michelle are awesome. We had lunch with them today. I’ve been frustrated recently because Wayne especially hasn’t been very good at replying to email or phone calls. But when we get together we always really enjoy their company and it seems like it was just yesterday that we saw them.

Next week their daughter will be in a local production of the Nutcracker and I’m planning to go see her performance. Last year I tried to go to the same thing and got lost looking for the performance hall in the dark. So Michelle suggested we get together for lunch in Renton (the town where the dance will be held) and after lunch they had me follow them over there so I would know where it was.

I thought it was very generous of them to offer to take time out of their busy schedules to do this for me. And how wonderful it was to see them too. I think the solution to my frustrations over unanswered email and phone calls is just to find a way to get together with them in person a little more often.

This entry was so helpful to me...

I definitely have friends who don’t keep in great touch, but then when I see them, it is so fun and so easy. Your entry was a helpful reminder to focus on the experience of being with a friend and not to keep checklists of who called or e-mailed when.

Glad to help...

I too am the “checklist” queen. They can be helpful in reminding me to do my part, but shouldn’t be used as some kind of a weapon in a relationship, if you know what I mean. Some people do better with this stuff than others, and certainly there are plenty of times I have not responded in a timely manner. It doesn’t at all mean I don’t care for that person, and I need to remember it works in the reverse as well.

Carm has gotten 8 cheers on this entry.
