backpack through Europe (read all 4 entries…)
hopefully i get to go this summer . . .

easiest part: giving birth to the idea with more commitment
hardest part: finding people to join in with commitment

i hope the people i asked to come with will actually . . . come with. it’s a big thing (atleast to me it is) and i hope it works out. but i don’t know where to start. that’s a major road block for all things i guess. first i think, what should i pack, then my friend (a bit more experienced in the whole backpacking thing) tells me not to pack anything. great. then i think, where should i go. i guess wherever i want? that’s a lot. europe has a lot of countries. meh, i still have a long time to think about it before it happens. but i want to think about it early that way i know for sure whether or not that happens. but i’m the only one in on this right now. =D too bad backpacking isn’t a good solo job . . .

Comments:

Backpacking alone is perfectly fine, and your friend is right – don’t pack much.

Each to their own but I reckon back packing alone is by far the best way to go!!!

it’s awesome having the complete freedom to decide where to go, what to do, and how long to stay.

If you stay in hostels you will meet hundreds of people from all cultures and backgrounds. No doubt you will find many other backpackers to travel with for a day, or maybe a week or a month.

Even though you’ll start off alone I’m certain that you’ll find hundreds of friends along the way.

It is a big step, but backpacking in Europe alone isn’t as daunting as it seems.

Good luck with your plans.

Re the sleeping bag… it depends when/where you are going. I first backpacked around Europe for 3 months from June – August 10 years ago. I took a very expensive sleeping bag with me, but ended up sending it home and buying a very cheap, lightweight one. I spent most of my time in Italy and it was so hot I didn’t end up using the expensive bag at all.
