LiesAtTheAltar is finally doing her coursework! :)

stop being weird
Stop Being a Freak

For as long as i can remember, i’ve had all these weird little issues. The main ones are that whenever someone touches me, for instance on the arm, i have to touch the exact place on the other arm to “even it up”, and also, i have to do stupid things a certain amount of times, like clicking my computer mouse, taking short sharp breaths out or repeating words under my breath until it “feels right.”
There are other things too and i know it’s stupid because they’re just silly habbits, but i hate it so much, and it really gets me down. I can’t really tell anyone because they’ll think i’m a freak!
So basically, one of the things on my list is to either find a way to stop myself doing it, or to hope that one day it’ll stop on it’s own.
You’re probably thinking, “just don’t do it” but it’s alot harder said than done!
Anyway, i don’t mean to sound all depressing lol.

You are in good company

I always put my jewelry on in the same, exact order every day. The clothes in my closet are sorted by color. Most people have compensation or calming strategies of one kind or another.

I do the same thing! :o)

You aren't weird or a freak...

Everybody has quirks. It is what makes us individuals. I know that I have my own. While they aren’t as severe as yours, that doesn’t make them any less real. I used to have my cd’s arranged by music genre, and then I would arrange each section alphabetically, and then if I had more than 1 album by the same artist I would arrange it by release date. I do the same with my video games. I arrange them by which console, then alphabetically and then by date if I had more than one Final Fantasy or Resident Evil game. As a child I had my clothes arranged by color. I took the time to even make hangers that would indicate where the sections would begin and end. Now I don’t do it by color but I have my clothes separated by style. I keep my jeans together, crops together, tank tops, sleeveless, t-shirts, quarter sleeves, long sleeves, button ups, sweaters, sweat shirts, etc. My fiancee is really bad. He has a thing about restrooms, what he touches with his hands and other stuff.

What you have is OCD and a bunch of people have it in one form or another.

Don’t worry about it. It is what makes you special and unique :)

I agree about trying not to worry about it, but maybe the easiest way to change what bothers you is to consciously decide on calming behaviors which you find more acceptable.

...and try to cut yourself as much slack as you can, and accept some ‘weirdness’ as being charming quirks. If you were completely ‘ordinary’ that would be so boring as to be freakish in and of itself.

LiesAtTheAltar has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
