Its two days before Christmas, and I am winning the battle against spending. Its not much of a choice really – between the gloomy economic climate and limited income, lots of gifts and merriment is just not feasible.
Everyone I know is out shopping, and I know that one or two gifts are being bought for me. But how can I reciprocate if its going to result in my being in debt and despair next month? I think I will make everyone little vouchers they can ‘cash in’ later, that don’t require tons of money.
Like a home pedicure or a movie night at home. If its not appreciated, then tough. I will not spend what I dont have and then cry in the new year when I’m shackled to bills.

Comments:

ardilla actually graduated this fall!

I think the vouchers are a great idea!

who wouldn’t appreciate that?? It’s personal, thoughtful, fun and has the potential to deepen your bond with the recipient by spending time or doing something together. I much rather have gifts like these instead of things that put us farther into our own little world of non-connection.

Cheers & kudos to you for being financially responsible and standing up for your financial well-being.

Happy Festivus! :)

Thanks:)

Best wishes for the season to you as well.
Funny story – yesterday on the local news they featured a group giving away gifts to random strangers. They did a vox pop and most people applauded the idea. Then they asked a little boy who replied with profound honesty – ‘why give away gifts when you can sell them?’
Out of the mouth of babes … and they say commercialisation isn’t that widespread!

Lotus has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
