he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and his first radiation treatment is today. The doctors are highly optimistic and say they could not have even detected the cancer a few years ago; the prognosis boils down to ‘at your age you will die from something else before the cancer gets you’ (I hope the doctor phrased it much better than that, but that is how it got relayed to me).

that you are there to support him through this. The treatments can leave people feeling very drained, so he will appreciate having family there for him, I’m sure.
My father passed away suddenly a year and a half ago, and we didn’t have the best relationship. I only wish that I could have the opportunity that you now have. I don’t know the history between you and your father, I just know that when they are gone, the bad doesn’t seem so bad anymore. I applaud you on your effort, and hope all is well with your father.
