LittleButton Loves her husband

read all of Stephen King's books (read all 13 entries…)

I finished Night Shift. I thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly Quitters Inc. and Strawberry Spring. I am currently reading Cujo. Technically Firestarter was next, but my husband’s ex girlfriend took a lot of his books when they broke up, including that one, and I haven’t been able to find a copy in the bookstore yet. So I will read it next. Or after Danse Macabre.

Comments:

NIGHT SHIFT

My favorites are The Boogeyman, Gray Matter, Quitters, Inc and Strawberry Spring. Early King was very primal, very nasty. Though published in a later collection, Suffer the Little Children was originally intended for publication in Night Shift, but didn’t make the cut because it was deemed TOO dark. Go figure.

Danse Macabre may not be your cup of tea—it’s a study of horror as a genre, covering comics, TV, films and novels (up to the early 80s when the book was published, that is). It’s dated and really needs a sequel, but I love it. One of my favorites from King. His study of Dracula and Frankenstein, in particular, are engrossing.

What makes you think I don’t enjoy literary theory?

I know you enjoy it!

It’s just that if you’re looking for another fun Stephen King novel, it might disrupt your flow. Much the same with his brilliant book ON WRITING—it tends to be a chore to read his nonfiction for some readers if they’re looking to be entertained solely on a popcorn level.

his nonfiction

is still interesting. it’s not always as easy of a read but it’s still worth it. i read as much about him or try to as i read of his books.

recommended book that he didn't write about him : lost works of stephen king, it has everything he ever wrote from a very young age.

beautiful book

Cujo has some of the most beautiful writing I’ve ever read. I remember sitting in Taco Bueno or Jack in the Box on my lunch break, reading Cujo, and tearing up. Some of that prose is beautiful. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
