Dear RuthG,
The Illinois Arts Council was pleased to have had the opportunity to consider your application for a fellowship in poetry. I regret to inform you that it was not one of those selected for funding.

I just don’t think this is going to happen. Not enough options for funding, & competition is too fierce for this particular fellowship.

Lisa 2010 only comes once in a blue moon.

I wonder if all of

the bedlam going on with Blagojevich has an impact on funding for nonprofits. I know the state is pretty broke and things have been pretty mismanaged. I wish there were a way we (on 43t) could pool our money and offer you a 43t poetry fellowship.

Arts funding

went back & forth in last year’s state budget; I got various e-mails about that from the IAC. But it was hard to sort out what happened in the end. It appears that the IAC did award the usual number of fellowships. They give to many more visual artists than poets – which may make sense because visual artists have to put $$ into supplies/media while we poets can make do with just a few pens & a blank book or two.

A 43T poetry fellowship – you’re sweet. :-) A lot of 43Ters, including you, have already been supportive by buying my book!
