Using OmniFocus to Get Things Done 11 months ago

I’ve been using a GTD system that seems to be working with a combination of a Mac-based application called OmniFocus along with an iPod Touch version of it as well. In the past I’d start to implement things, but as life got busier things would fall through the cracks and I’d miss things and then the whole thing would fall apart. The key for me has been the ability to capture things that I need to do where am I and to check them off and to know that nothing will be lost. It’s simple and easy to use and while it can be intimidating at times when you keep adding to the list, it’s actually good to see the things that you need to do as whether they’re recorded or not they need to get done.
Now I feel a bit more relaxed as I know that I’m staying on top of things and not missing anything. It’s a great feeling to see things crossed off the list and it’s been eliminating a lot of the procrastination that has tripped me up before. Now I look for things to cross off my list all of the time.

GTD

I read it. I read a lot of the web pages on GTD. I even made my own 3×5 card “PDA.” I didn’t implement it on a regular basis.

Not too long ago I ran across something called Auto Focus 2

I’ve been using it fairly successfully. It’s better for a bunch of short tasks than when working on one long one, but it’s the first task management system I’ve been able to apply regularly.

Auto Focus 2 seems like a really good way to stay organized. The big thing with any of these systems is that you need to use them every day. I have been good with staying organized, but it’s so easy to fall out of the routine and then start missing stuff.
I have to always remember that the important thing is to do things and not spend too much time on the system itself.
Congratulations on finding a system that works!

System Paralysis

But it’s so much easier to tweak the system than to do actual work! Just like it’s easier to write about goals than to achieve them!

But AF2 is so simple that it doesn’t allow me to fiddle with it (I haven’t felt the urge to rewrite my list in calligraphy, for example!).

Once I get a job, I’ll be modifying it a bit, probably. I do like the @ piece of GTD. And then AF2 might turn into a trio of Moleskine cahier pocket journals.

It is a lot easier to talk about things that actually do things. It’s great to have a simple system that pushes you to do things.
I love those Moleskine notebooks in all of their forms.

drasticfantastic is truly thankful this Thanksgiving

Truer words have never been said ;)
Hope you’re having a fab weekend
