Why does the USA still follow the Imperial System? 4 years ago

I had a discussion with my friend yesterday, and I was trying to justify why we don’t use the metric system. Honestly, I was BS-ing a reason that, although it sounded good, must have been totally wrong. I’d like to know the real reason.

Because USA is dumb. _ Canada is where it’s at. Really, base units of ten are so simple. None of this inch/foot/yard business that is completely disconnected.

I find the most difficult place to switch over to metric (besides weight and height) is cooking. No one says 15 mL instead of a Tbsp.
