retire early (read all 4 entries…)
Time flies when you're having fun. 10 months ago

Assuming we can get all our debt paid off, I might be able to retire in a little over 5 years. That sounds very soon, but I would like to go places and enjoy myself while I’m young, rather than work a few extra years to attempt to save a few more dollars in the bank. I know a few work colleagues who stayed working a few years longer than they needed to and then didn’t get to enjoy their retirements for very long, as illness became a problem for them.

Every person I know who took early retirement has had a great time and didn’t look back. That’s for me! ;)

I hope

you achieve it Wayne. Life is for living :)

Thanks, flowergirlresumed.

I am a strong proponent of “working to live,” as opposed to “living to work.”

How are you doing on a Sunday evening?

I'm fine thanks

I’ve just put the little one’s to bed… We have had a sprinkling of snow today and dusk was beautiful, complete with a gorgeous moon on show. Hope you are okay :)

That sounds very lovely.

I’m sure it’s warmer in England than here, lol, although we have an unseasonably warm period this afternoon. The mercury has risen to be above freezing for the first time in about a month! It’s 3C right now! (~38F)

That sounds great!

My parents retired when my dad hit 62, although they still work a few days a week and it’s great for them. They get to travel and enjoy hobbies more and still sort of have a schedule and things to do in their week. My dad was such a workaholic that I was surprised when they told me that they were really going to go and do it.

Good luck!

That sounds wonderful.

It’s great that your dad has been able to enjoy his retirement, Mary. At my work, given my years of service, I could retire without penalty at age 55. Sounds good to me. ;) while I’m not a travel junkie, there are quite a few places that I would like to visit. Did you notice that the robots have completely re-vamped 43Places and there are no more cheers there?

I hadn't...

Cheers make less sense there, but its odd that they ended them.

I know...

But it seems the way here. Major changes without warning.

I just read your self-improvement entry. Looks like you’ve got some great ideas. Bonne chance, jolie femme! :)

I noticed..

... that the other day with 43P…. I thought it was strange when I couldn’t cheer someone…!

Highly recommend early retirement Wayne ~ it certainly has a lot going for it ;)

Thanks for your perspective, nonna.

I say enjoy retirement and travel while you’re young! ;) Of course, with the recent market financial turmoil, many people are being forced to delay their retirement or even go back to work, as their nest eggs have very quickly become smaller. :(

Thanks, howyadoin.

Given everything that is going on in the financial marketplace, I might have to delay retirement for a few years. I’ve heard that some recent retirees have actually had to go back to work, as they have lost 45% of their retirement nest egg savings. I know that my mutual funds, what little I have, have taken a beating.

Are you doing ok this week?

Waynesworld has gotten 20 cheers on this entry.
