Raise awareness and money for Crohn's disease and Colitis (read all 17 entries…)
Mourning the loss of my friend Judy 10 months ago

My friend Judy died last week from complications of Crohn’s disease. I met Judy back in the Fall of 2001. I was at my worst and decided to join a support group sponsored by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. judy was the support group leader.

Judy was a huge support to me and my husband. At our meetings, she even helped with our marriage, helped my husband to understand, be empathetic and have patience to handle what I was going through. In returned, I learned it wasn’t just me who had to handle this disease.

Judy never liked to talk about herself. She always listened to everyone elses story’s. Judy had multiple surgeries including a colostomy and reversal of it. She had been sick for years and never liked to ever showed she was feeling pain. But over the years, I guess we became closer and we would hear more and more about what she has gone through in her battle.

Judy lost her battle last Tuesday when she died in her sleep. I guess her body just gave up. She was 53 years young. She left behind a son 28, and her husband.

Thank you for listening.

It so is. She was so involved in the CCFA. She was at every event to help out.

I’m so saddened for you and Judy’s family and friends. She sounds like a wonderful person and role model. I see in you the same qualities that you saw in her. I hope you’ll consider honoring her memory in ways that demonstrate that same strength that she showed.

I will!

Thanks for the hugs!

Tink will be returning in baby steps.

Oh, Segsy.

I just read this (I was still on hiatus from 43T in February).

I’m so sorry you lost your friend to this ghastly condition. She was clearly an amazing woman who touched many lives in her 53 years.

Your honesty here, and your relentless efforts to raise awareness and research funds for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, make a fitting tribute to Judy, as well as reflecting your own special courage and decency.

Thanks Tink!

She is a great loss to not only me and the support group but to our CCFA Long Island Chapter. She volunteered at every fundraiser and attended every event.

I had PROUDLY offered to take Judy’s place as the support group facilitator however, it turned out they already had someone. I guess I was better off because it is a HUGE committment.
