Tawny whispers promises in the dark.
I just got my second tattoo about three weeks ago, and both mean the world to me. I have three birds behind my right ear (the first) and four cat paws plus a star on my left wrist (the second). The first was inspired by a very life changing sentiment – defy gravity. I feel, sometimes, during my darkest moments that the birds are there, whispering in my ear that I can defy gravity, just like they do. The paws are both a memorial (to the most amazing, quirky, and douchebaggy cat in the world) and an empowerment symbol. They provide a feeling of confidence when I’m reaching out for something I’m not entirely sure of.
I do adore my art, and though I’ve been stereotyped for my more visible tattoo, I just remember that the meaning belongs to me. If a graduate program or future employer can’t accept me because I have made a mark on my body, then that isn’t the place for me.
