JayneBorg is a little sore from rock climbing and working on pull-ups...

do a pullup
Pull-up? Come on! 10 months ago

So I’m fairly physically active. (I ran 5.5 miles yesterday without stopping!) I like to hike, run, bike, and swim…but apparently this isn’t enough!! I CANNOT do a pull-up. In fact, I have only done 1 in my entire life. That was in the second grade and I have no idea how I managed it for the annual physical fitness test. I’ve been using the pull-up assist machine at the gym, but I’m just not seeing results when I try it alone! Anyone consider themselves in good shape, but can’t do a pull-up? What gives??

Waynesworld Merry Christmas, fellow 43Thingers!

You just have to work on your upper body strength.

It sounds like your core and legs are in very good shape, but pull-ups require really good shoulder and arm strength. Don’t fret, it’s common that our lower body is more muscularly developed than our upper body. Do you work out at a gym at all? If you are a member, maybe you could arrange to have one of the fitness instructors plan a regimen that would work on building up your arms, chest and shoulders a bit more.

Same boat!

I’m in the same boat. I can run a 5k, bike 80 miles, etc etc… but no pull-up. Ever. I’m focusing on upper-body strength, and working on push-ups. Not all the same muscles, but a lot of the same, and I can do them at home. Whereas I mostly just hang off the pull-up bar we have, so that’s not as useful right now. You can do it – just keep at it!

JayneBorg has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
