It is an analogy we all know—the phrase “stepping outside the box”. Although it is an overused expression, I think the box-esque description of getting outside our comfort zone is a good one. I have been stepping outside of my own comfort zone more and more lately. When I get outside my comfort zone, it feels uneasy and worrisome. Inside the “box” feels safe and accepting and confident. Outside the box feels dangerous and feels insecure. Also, because I am venturing out into new territory, such a move may result in rejection by others who are used to my “regular self”.

While inside the box can be wonderful and comforting, if we stay there too long, we will eventually become stale, much like bread locked up inside its package way past its expiration date.

In order to renew ourselves and grow, and as uncomfortable as it is sometimes, it is important to break the borders of our boxes and to venture out more. It is also important not to over-think our actions, but to recognize the courage of our journey. And perhaps hardest of all, it is important not to rely on the acceptance of others, but to lean steadily on our own self-acceptance and have a real appreciation of our effort.

I like your theme

SG, of stripping away the need for the acceptance of others. It seems like we shape so many of our thoughts and actions based on that factor, despite what our true nature or authenticity would rather have us do.

And it’s funny, how we put so much stock into other people’s opinions. In truth, they may give us only a fleeting thought and then they go back to their own lives. Yet many people carry on as if their every movement is being judged or watched.

Strength and courage, to follow our paths as if no one was looking. They probably aren’t anyways :)

Saturnsglow Is getting in the Holiday Mood.

I heard something once that really made sense: “if we care too much about what other people think, then we live by our imagination of others’ thoughts!”

It seems ridiculous to live by the imagination of others’ thoughts!

I really like your point of not worrying about what people are thinking about you, because, most likely, they are not thinking about you at all…they are thinking about themselves LOL.

I look so forward to your comments! Thank you!

Hawk~ he's back.

Have you noticed...

that after having spent some time outside the box, one day you wake up and you’re back inside? Except it’s not the same box—it’s changed.

It’s roomier, more comfy. And you have to stretch just a little more to get outside again.

:)
