I agree. I’m not very political either, and with the World Wide Web, it’s so easy to get exposed to a wealth of cultures via music. In the days before Internet, I didn’t realize there was so much amazing music in the world! Exposure to music leads to exposure to the culture that created that music. For example, I live in the Appalachian Mountains of the U.S. Anyone who delved deeply into the traditional Appalachian music would most certainly learn a great deal about the culture of the mountains.
