Bookshelves 8 months ago

OK seriously I’m freaking out re:bookshelves.

I thought it would be fine, that I’d be able to locate ubercheap bookshelves a la the ones my mother and father had for twenty years; I’m talking the cheap-o particle board sort. Well, they aren’t anywhere to be found, at least not for super cheap, and I’m thinking that a house with two women who were not only raised in the Church of Literature but who have Bachelor’s degrees in fucking poetry will need three bookshelves, no question.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on seriously low-cost bookshelf options, alternatives, etc.?

UPDATE
I went to Big Lots. There are five-shelf bookcases for $27. I’m buying three white ones and covering the back panel with fabric to create a richer feel!

Low-tech Cheap Bookshelves

In my home office I have bookshelves made out of pine boards and bricks. Gravity keeps it all together and I’ve used it for a decade or two. I wouldn’t stack the bookcase really high though.
I have wanted to build a bookcase that is taller though, but I haven’t done that. I keep thinking, “how hard would it be to build a bookcase?” but I haven’t actually done it. My brother is a carpenter with a full shop, so I suppose I could ask him for help…

Margaret has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
