At first I thought it was nothing but an attempt at sarcasm. But then I realized that it isn’t, it’s just an extremely stupid website that uses god as an justification for religious fanatics’ unreasonable hatred. And people still wonder why I’m an atheist.
Somewhere in the website there’s a picture of a woman holding a sign with the words: Thank God for AIDS, and she’s smiling, that’s right, smiling. People like this make me proud to be human.

Westboro Baptist church

We had an encounter with these people not to long ago in Western New York.
Remember the plane crash of 3407 in Clarence, NY?
I’m only 5 miles from there.
This so called church of Christ believes that all the bad things in the US happen because the U S tolerates gays.
So, they feel that the Wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan is justifiable punishment. They are known for showing up at the funerals of deceased veterans and directly interfering with them.
Here in Western NY, they showed up to the memorial services of several of the victims and tried to interfere. Luckily, there was advance notice of their coming. A counterprotest of several hundred people from all walks of life, gay and straight, showed up, to make sure the services went peacefully.
The church members put up quite a squawk, saying that these other people had no right to be there. In the end, the left with their tails between their legs. However, the people involved, including the police forces, are now on their official list of “domestic terrorists”.
This same church is now banned from entering the UK, because it has stirred up so much hatred and bigotry there. And this is from the people that have the I.R.A.
Leandro, don’t base your decisions on just these jerks. All groups have extremists, no matter who they are. There are radical Buddhists as well as Christians. Just find some kind of guiding values, OK?
BTW, I have a friend in Oklahoma, near where these people are. On behalf of the entire Midwest US, he apologizes for them.
Reminds me of the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
In it, he states one of the best ways to make sure someone goes to Hell is to make them so religious and so sure of themselves that the actions they perform in the name of God do more harm than good.

I'd seen that website before.

I don’t know how I stumbled upon it, but I had seen it once. Saying it’s disgusting is an understatement- it’s unbelievable. Just as you say, people throw around the name of “God” to justify anything they want, in this case, hating gays. I do not like how people do what they want and point to “God” when others raise eyebrows. People would destroy the planet in the name of God. This is why I’ve come to believe the following conclusion: God wants what people want God to want.
