joyfully clear out the clutter from our home (read all 90 entries…)
just a 9 months ago

little bit of sorting old toys together with my youngest son. He’s really good about sorting the ones he no longer wants. We make 3 piles… KEEP, THROW AWAY, SELL AT YARD SALE. Since my teenage son doesn’t want to hold a yard sale, my youngest son (with help from my oldest son) will hold his own yard sale in April. Now to keep sorting those toys, etc.

russellviii Getting ready for the summer's last vacation

Courage

I’ve noticed that it is very difficult for people to part with things, even when they have no use for them.

Last week I was working on some plumbing under the bathroom sink and had to clear a bunch of junk out of the cabinet first. I suggested to Mrs. viii that we look through it all and discard things that we haven’t used in over a year. She reluctantly tossed a few partial bottles of shampoo and lotion which she admitted she doesn’t use anymore because she can’t stand their fragrance. Even though she doesn’t use them it was still hard to let them go, I guess because of the fact that they were still usable.

I have found that I can’t clean bedrooms when the kids are around, same problem. Every scrap of paper, every too small piece of clothing or broken toy seems to have a memory or give some kind of security to the owner. They can’t bear to see them leave, but if they were to leave while their owner is away, they would never be missed.

it’s hard to get rid of junk sometimes.

lob has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
