At least that’s what my deck says. The Chariot. Hard control and progress.
I’m learning to paint and being mentored by an artist and writing the Chronicles of my Legendary Self and writing a poem a day in April and a poem a week for a poetry group I joined and doing six yoga poses and sketching and I just learned something I know you’ll love.
On my last mentorship day, my mentor, her mentor and eight other women artists went to the park and drew trees from the ground up, focusing on the repeating patterns of growth. Then we did close ups of different parts (leaf clusters, flowers, trunk lines, berries) and then turned them into patterns we could quickly ‘write’ over the page to create the look of the tree. If we use the flower pattern on, say, the clothing of someone in a painting and the trunk pattern for a border on the same painting, they will organically complement each other, as they spring from the same tree. It’s a way to create harmony in a painting. Isn’t that brilliant?! As I was creating the trunk of a holly tree, with the marks where the branches had been lopped off, I thought, “If a woman walked down the street this scarred, we’d call her ugly, but this trunk is pure beauty. Hmmmm…”
I told Mr. Yes once that he was hard on himself and he texted back, “I don’t think I’m hard on myself. I just want to do better in all areas of my life. Especially with you.” What a change!
Neutrogena has a 90+ SPF Face Shield sunscreen now. You really have to work it into your skin, but it’s awesome. I use it on the back of my hands, too, and it seems to stick around for awhile.
