Sew an apron (read all 4 entries…)
Been held back 7 months ago

Simply because I much prefer using a sewing machine, and no matter how neat and small my stitches, I still have to stitch everything twice (stitching once one way, then stitching back, in the gaps of the last stitches, so it appears you have one continuous line of stitches). Alternatively, I could do backstitch, which is slightly stronger. Argh, I just want a sewing machine!

Good luck with the apron!

Hi Rachael,

I hope you have better luck with this goal than I have had! I tried making a gingham apron in school (ages ago) and I ended up breaking the sewing machine! Ooops! You seem to know what you’re doing though.

How did it go?

How did your apron turn out? Back stitching is better than going around twice because it is a stonger, reinforcing stitch. I hope the apron turned out great. I am puttng on a fashion camp next week with 3 other designers and we will be teaching sewing and pattern making to a group of teenage girls. I am hoping this goes exceptionally well.

Well...

...I got started on a cross stitch project, but once that is finished (and it almost is), I’m back on to the apron. And you’re right, backstitch is much better. Good luck with the fashion camp! :)

Thanks

I am finally getting ramped about this fashion camp. I have been buying supplies and setting up the space so I am getting into it a bit. I will post photos as it goes on.

I am glad you are sticking it out with the apron. That should be a really cute project.
