I got bumped to first class when my flight was cancelled. The guy in front of me in line was irate and belligerent to the desk agent, and I was pleasant to her. I think this helped, so she placed me in first-class to make up for my inconvenience. It was nice, but i cannot imagine paying for it. Pretty exorbitant!
I’ve used my frequent-flyer miles to upgrade (only bumped up once). It’s nice on long, long flights.
