get my weight below 200 pounds
Closer Finally 7 months ago

Back in July 2007 I adopted this goal after seeing it on Patrick Weintraub’s list. I’d just finished losing seven stone, and instead of creating an eight stone goal which didn’t exist at that time, I figured this was as good a goal as any to adopt at that point since I was within a stone of doing it.

At that point though I stopped working hard to lose more weight. I was looking very ill according to friends and family because of all the loose skin from losing the weight so quickly (just under nine months). I began focusing on other goals like running a marathon and slowly my weight started creeping back up until I’d gained about two stone back that I’d lost. I took off one of those stones but for the last year have basically kept losing and gaining the same pounds over and over again.

As of this morning though, I’m now two pounds lighter than my lowest weight of 2007. In fact, I’ve not weighed this little since my sophomore year of college 22 years ago. What’s helped me regain my focus is a 21 day weight loss challenge that Aaron got me to join over on Twitter. Deni H and I have been working on weight loss together for over a year and it just wasn’t happening for me. Competition works for me. (I’m in the lead by the way.)

Last week I was two stone away from my end goal. Now I’m a stone and a half away. This goal will be marked off before I get there, but with the progress I’ve made this month I may just hit my hoped for target date.

Awesome Todd...

... a good feeling, I’m sure…

I took my weight loss very slowly – over 18 months if I remember correctly, and have managed to keep if off now for 6 years. It’s a good feeling isn’t it? You feel well again and full of energy ~ well, I do anyway…!

Good For You

That’s great that you’ve maintained your weight loss for six years. I don’t ever plan to regain the lost weight, but then again I still want to lose more.

Waynesworld is happy to be here.

Congratulations, Todd!

Wow, as light as you were at age 22? I remember how light I was at age 20. ;) Those were the days! As with nonna, I’ve been slowly losing and trying to establish better habits. It really does give us more energy to get rid of that excess weight, doesn’t it?

Younger Than That

Don’t make me older than what I am Wayne. I said 22 years ago. I was 19/20 back then.

Honestly as I’ve said all along, I didn’t feel bad when I was 100 pounds heavier and don’t notice any difference in how I feel now.

I've acutally...

I’ve actually gained weight in the last year or so. I’ve always been scrawny, but with all the exercising I’ve done in the last two years I’ve put on 8 pounds and I think most of it is muscle…

Muscle Weight

My trainer and I were having this discussion the other week after I had told him I wasn’t buying any new training sessions. I had told him when I started that I wanted to lose a certain amount of weight, but in the year and a half he was training me I had only lost ten pounds. He commented on my strength gains indicating that I had grown new muscle. I reminded him that me benching 200 was his goal, not mine. Mine was to get below 200. In the month that I’ve not been training with him, I’ve dropped over a stone in weight while maintaining my strength.

Muscle does weigh more than fat, so as long as you’re seeing strength and endurance gains and your clothes are fitting the same or looser, it’s probably muscle growth. I did lose three inches around my waist during that year and a half, so my trainer was doing something right.

My clothes still fit.

...but that’s kinda normal. I still have clothes from high school! I can’t see the muscle gain, but I can definitely feel that my core muscles are stronger, particularly my obliques. I get scared of the idea of losing weight [with good reason: I lost five pounds in two weeks once after a breakup], but I’d also like it if people could see my fun new abs…

Congratulations

Well done on losing so much weight – you must have gained tremendous will power to do this, keep going, don’t lose momentum when you have nearly hit your target. Think how amazing it will be to click that you reached this goal on 43Things. It’s really motivating for the rest of us who want to lose a wee bit of weight x
