improve (read all 2 entries…)
New Direction 7 months ago

First of all I have to say thank you to Eagle Eye who helped me to realise that it’s high-time I wrote a new entry for this goal, as all of the things I wanted to improve on, have been improved on.

Current things I want to improve on are as follows:
keeping in touch with friends
I’ve had the goal ‘make new friends’ for about 6 months now, but just because I finished school, and everyone split up and went off to uni doesn’t mean I have to write off old friendships, it just means I have to make sure I keep in touch with those who I can’t see as often anymore. I’ve kept in touch with a few people, but i’d like to improve this, and make sure I continue to focus on it.

not feeling lonely
It’s difficult being 18 and living in the country. I get time off work to visit people my age, but generally I need to be able to go a few weeks at a time and be able to not get lonely. I’ve struggled with loneliness for some time now. Usually I can manage it well, sometimes it gets the better of me. This last week has been particularly bad, but I was able to spend time with some friends today which helped and hopefully i’ll get to see Aaron this weekend.

saving money!
aaah i’m sure everyone wants to improve on this! I do pretty well generally, most of my spending is necessary spending only. I do spend the occasional dollar on something I could’ve gone without, but i’m much better than I used to be. It’s important I keep this up, so I have money saved for university! :)

completing my wardrobe
I’d like to have all the clothes I feel I need to have before I go to uni, so that i’m not tempted to spend money on clothes when I can’t afford it. I figure it will be easier to tell myself that I don’t need to buy more clothes if I already have enough. I’ve been visiting second-hand clothing stores, and today picked up 2 rather nice dresses for $7 each, also a few t-shirts, and some very cool shorts :)

My mind has gone blank… I’ll have to finish this another time :)

Comments:

Have you decided which hallowed hall of learning you’ll be studying at?

Yes...sort of...not really. :)

Awhile back I decided ‘AUT’, then I decided ‘Waikato’ then ‘Massey’, but my latest, and probably most definite, is Victoria :)

I stopped looking at just the university, and started looked more closely at the courses, and which fit best with what I was interested in. I stopped by my old school the other day (i’m on a gap year at the moment) and picked up a stack of prospectus’ (prospecti?). I’ve had a good look through, and spoken to a lot of people. I know there’s still time to decide, but the later I leave it the more scholarship applications I will miss out on.

It’s been good to talk to people and get different advice and opinions, except every time I talk to someone, they point out something that makes me change my mind!

Are you still planning to study something to do with Computers?

Up until about 2 weeks ago

I was still thinking of doing computers. Now i’m concerned about locking myself into a full computer degree. I still find computers interesting though, so may end up doing a broader degree, such as the bachelor of arts, where I can possibly take a double major, with computers and something else that interests me. :)

Excellent choice.

Victoria is where I am! It’s a really great place to study, and I highly endorse having a thorough read of the available courses before you sign up for anything (although you’ll probably end up changing your major a billion times anyway!).

Scholarships are also a great idea – they have made my life so much easier. Vic has a really good scholarships office, and they can help you out with applications and the like if you need it.

Someone gave me odd advice last week, and said that if I got drunk it would be easier to decide. It didn’t work, so I went back to square one, with a slightly altered technique. I throughly read through all of the university prospectus’, and made a note of anything that caught my interest. I noted things like history, linguistics, anthropology, computer science etc… mainly arts majors. I’m not too keen on science/business.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for a scholarship. There are so many out there, and they will definitely help. I read that you are managing to save money while at uni! Woo-hoo!

It sounds

like you have been very thorough indeed.

And as for me managing to save money … it’s been a bit of a struggle, but it’s definitely do-able. The problem with Wellington is that there are so many fabulous things that lure cash out of your wallet!

Elusive Sleuth has gotten 7 cheers on this entry.
