Hanging tomatoes 7 months ago

Mom & I got some of those hanging tomato planters and are hanging some tomatoes. The Boy, who got to help us fill them with soil thinks this is, “one of the most asinine things you have done in a long time.” I got treated to a lecture about root systems and sun.

I sure hope these things work, because I want him to eat his words in tomatoes :D I also put in some herbs.

The pond & fountain are ready for the year. Next I start on planters… I am also looking at putting in a bird feeder or two. The garden with the lilac bush border and the water elements is really starting to attract birds. A sign if a good garden in my opinion. Today I saw a chipmunk and rabbits, in addition to cardinals, robins, wrens, a crow, and possibly a finch. Quite an assortment for a ranch house subdivision!

I am getting more done at Mom’s house then mine. I spend more time there, but I need to do some things at my house soon. Manana…

hanging tomato planters????

Who knew?

That sounds pretty cool. I’m off to investigate now!

I saw that

in the Gardeners Supply catalog, and have to admit I’m a bit sceptical that they would grow OK without major support. You guys will have to let me know how that turns out. Just in case I ever make the effort to grow my own again

wren is mightier than grief.

Last summer I grew bush tomatoes

in containers and had a lot of success with them.

Ah, yes -

maybe the variety of tomato makes a difference. Back in the day when I had a veggie garden, mine were huge, heavy, unruly things which needed cages to contain them. And my green beans were like Jack’s beanstalk – 7 or 8 feet tall. But they were pole beans, not bush beans, and therein lies the difference. Good point, Wren!

Compare - Contrast - Investigate!!!

Monkey & I watch, Sid the Science Kid, regularly. :D

I have 4 different varieties for this reason. Two heritage varieties, a patio & a Better Boy. I bypassed the Big Boys figuring that smaller tomatoes do better in containers.

I admire

your ambition so much! You should post pictures, Flutter. Aren’t the creatures you see half the fun? :)
