set aside food storage (read all 2 entries…)
A question about this goal: What is the best way to start setting aside food storage if you're on a tight budget? 2 years ago

Answers:

Whatever you do… don’t go and by a year’s supply of anything! Chances are, what you would purchase, if that’s all you could afford, wouldn’t sustain you for very long. (My first purchase was a year’s supply of cherry pie filling!)

You know what you eat, right? You know what you buy… Building a food storage on a tight budget begins by building a pantry. When you go to the store to get the tomatoes on sale, instead of getting the two cans, buy four, and date all of them. When you buy on sale, you’ll actually start having more money to buy more storage items, because you’ll use what you have (when it was purchased affordably). The trick is treating all of the food you purchase like it’s for your pantry and not to be tucked away. When your budget grows, you’ll add what you can, but always begin by buying what you use.
