control my diabetes (read all 28 entries…)
I went to two classes this week. 6 months ago

One was on nutrition, how to look at recipes and change them to make them more healthy, and the other was on diabetes.

In the diabetes class, we talked about which fruits had a higher level of sugar. That was valuable.

I'm not diabetic,

but I have those tendencies. I’m trying to prevent diabetes by keeping my A1C/blood sugar levels in check. Recently I read a bit about the South Beach Diet, and when I mentioned it to my doctor, she said it is great for that. She knows about the diabetes in my family, so she was happy I was considering it. Have you checked it out? They aren’t a “no carb/no fat” diet, just controlling the type and quantity of carbs and eating lowfat or nonfat foods, especially focusing on the healthy kinds of fats like nuts, olives, and avocadoes. The only thing I don’t like about it is that for their desserts they use artificial sweeteners, but I guess they started off developing the diet for diabetics, so it was appropriate.
