White Tiger by Arvind Adiga 7 months ago

I read this novel only after hearing that this book has grabbed Man Booker Prize…’The White Tiger’ is the story of Balram Halwai, a simple son of a villager, who comes to Delhi after accepting offer of a job as chauffer . In fact the story is an suggestive letter to Chinese Prime minister Wen Jiabo ,giving him a detail of a life style of entrepreneur. Because Mr. Wen Jiabo is due to visit Bangalore, where Balram lives and has proved himself a successful entrepreneur. Its a sort of confession, Balram was called sometimes back in his childhood ‘White Tiger ‘ a rarest animal by an impressed Inspecter of schools, who promised to give an opportunity to take more education but his family insists him to take driving lisence instead and than Balram finds an opprtunity to go to Delhi and live a life with Ashok and his wife Pinky Madam. Now he is away from his greedy family. Ashok a polite master has his hands set on Balram. Who possesses all quality of feudal lord . Balram halwai is a pack of unleashed desires which takes him to commit a brutal crime. He leaves city to Bangalore with sufficient amount to start a small business. Where he observes city life and finds out the need of the city. He is now a clever businessman. But his desires never permit him to sit and enjoy a settled life. He has all plans to start a new business like a White Tiger , who rarely enjoys his cage .
Arvind Adiga has set new vocabulary like A ‘half baked Indian’ (An illiterate citizen) and he describes life of a common man is as “Rooster’s Life’. Well no doubt Arvind’s virgin writing is capable of telling an adventures story. But what’s the role of Mr. Wen GIabo in the story, difficult to understand. May be author wants to compare our democratic view with communism. But who goes for these minute details..? If you want to go for a light reading , may go for it.
