earn my black belt

I won’t be able to commence training until this September, because I reside in the middle of nowhere, with no dojo’s, and no possibility of getting to one. I have found a number of TKD and shotokan dojos close to my university, and will be beginning with a novice white belt in the fall. Until then, I am training and conditioning in order to get into optimal shape for katas and sparring in September. Do you have any advice on what I should focus on?

nicolasc is Grinchy... very, very Grinchy. But she dons a hat and plays Santa for Sonny Lou Who anyway.

Not sure what kind of focus you are looking for,

and probably you have already started by now, but if not… in order to keep your body ready, I might suggest staying limber through yoga and stretching, staying fit through cardio (sparring takes a lot out of you in a short time), and take it from me, do a lot of cycling, leg presses, squats, and leg curls to keep your leg muscles strong and help stabilize your knees.

Have you managed to start up?

Sorry to be lagging

Yes, I began training the last week of August, and I am now a yellow belt! It is very exciting, and I’ve already competed (but regrettably lost) a few tournament matches. This is something I certainly want to continue for the rest of my life.
