self-actualize (read all 9 entries…)
Declaration of Self 4 years ago
  • I am a husband who delights in the commitment that is marriage, who finds the wisdom to be both one and separate. I express daily my affection, support, and tenderness with my beloved.
  • I am a father who opens up joy, possibility, worth and excellence for my children.
  • I am a friend who is challenging and supportive. I am faithful; I share my wisdom and my belongings. I listen attentively and skillfully. I speak the truth with love, insight, and humor.
  • I am Transformational, extraordinary insight and creativity expressed through word, music, visual art, and technology.
  • I will generate justice, wholeness, integrity, openness, empowerment, and understanding. My enemies are: shame, divisiveness, ignorance, indifference, and legalism.
  • I believe in The Source of Love who created a universe filled with the greatest power: Love. I daily spend time seeking that SOL. I give my self to devotedly aligning with that Power.
  • I uncover joy and delight in hidden places.
  • I see the beauty behind the ordinary. I am concerned with substance rather than appearance.
  • I dream the impossible, believe it can happen, take steps to do it, and make it become.
  • I help myself and others discover our blind spots, as well as what we know but are not aware of knowing.
  • I have fun whenever and wherever possible, but not at the expense of others.
  • I choose my words with care, brevity, accuracy, and incisiveness.
  • I am open to the µ (openly infinite) possibilities of life.
  • I help people feel safe yet excited, accepted yet challenged. I learn skills to manage conflict.
  • I am aware of, and am intimate with my own darkness and hurtful behaviors.
  • I accept things and people as they are and yet challenge all of us to become finer still.
  • I act in the face of injustice, cry in the presence of pain, am moved by excellence in any form
  • I grow where I’m planted, transforming rather than re-locating.
  • I do not quit until Love is accomplished.
  • I live powerfully so that I could die at any moment and be complete.

Very thought-provoking...

Reading your list is very inspiratiional to evaluate what a person is planning for his/her own life. It definitely did that for me! I am glad that there are other deep-thinkers in the world. :)

I read all your entries on the goal...

and sent you an e-mail at your new address (yahoo one) about the goal to clarify some points. Let me know if you got it or not.

Nope, didn't get it. Please re-send.

I would sure like to hear your thoughts.

I think you must've gotten it...

I got an e-mail from you that was exactly the appropriate reply to my e-mail if not. It was just my theories on what this goal is about. I will read the information in the links a little later on…It’s like almost 1:15 a.m.! I want to be able to comprehend what I read. But, I think from what’s developing, I would more than likely adopt the goal. I’ve just got to brush up on the Maslow theory a bit. (I know I remember hearing his name a bit in different psych courses I had.)

THANKS!!

Whether or not you make Self-Actualization a goal, you already ARE a self-actualizer. I can tell by the way you express yourself, what you are reaching for, and mostly by what you DO. Take it from someone who’s been at it for quite a while.

Best Wishes!

Tim

Grow where you're planted

Thanks for posting that list. One in particular resonates with me (see title); I think I won’t be able to help but to ruminate on it, probably a lot.

Thanks for that.

Thank you

Writing this, massaging, and molding this CREDO has done a lot for me. I used to have it up next to the mirror in my bathroom. . .Maybe I should do that again.
The point here is that
  • it helped me know who I was and who I wanted to become.
  • it’s not a roadmap for anyone else, just me.
  • if others find it useful, helpful, or inspirational, that’s just gravvy.
  • hopefully others will be inspired to generate their OWN, personalized declaration of who they are.

Thanks again for taking the time to read & comment. Resonating is wonderful!

flowers for you!

Your list is so idealistic, in a world that often seems to have forgotten to say such things.. forgot to dream perhaps.

I like ‘grow where i’m planted’ too, and somehow the last one about living powerfully so that even when you die you have lived completely is empowering, and reminiscent.

reminiscent of what i understood about ‘nirvana’ which is a state of mindfulness at every single moment, so that you are alive (and hence dying and rejuvenated) at every single moment. newly appreciative, and truly alive. it can be a very confusing state, disposing you to the same amazement that children feel when very young, when they stare at every single object like they have acquired vision and other senses for the first time.

i’m always so inspired to read you.

Chitra, you say the most profound and beautiful things!

I enjoy your Hindu perspective, as well. The funny thing is this (and I’m far from being the first to say it): The present is all there is!!! The past and the future exist only in our minds. What’s sad is to see people fretting over past mistakes, or planning for some future eventuality to the point that they miss the present, the only thing there IS. Children live mainly in the present. That’s what makes them so attentive, alive, fun, and Joyful!

If you like flowers, here’s a gift to you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bestrated1/ you can download anything there to your heart’s content.
Your ARE a beautiful person!

:)

i was fretting today and I’m glad I remembered to come here and have a look. Made me think about the gift that the ‘present’ is again. :)

i will take up the offer to download pics, thanks :) and thanks for the compliment!

You ARE an uplifting person, through and through.
