A whole year of reviewing goals, that needs a special edition. So I am comparing my current list of goals with the one I had next year. Outcome: 7 goals have stuck around, the rest (30 of them) are new. There are more in my ‘finished’ list that I have not completely given up, including the questions goal and the scavenger hunt but it’s not like those are goals that are ever really finished. :)
Some goals I had on back then have made a bit of a journey. For example back then I wanted to find a way to deal with not having kids. In the mean time I have stopped the goal because I did not want to be fatalistic and I still had some chances, and now my goal is to look into adoption. Interesting shifts. Some goals were simply marked off in the course of the year, like have a tattoo (got it!), get a massage (got it!), get a brazilian wax (ouch!) and give 700 cheers (working towards 6000 now). So that’s funny. Others I have given up on. Like do more with friends (...), develop a cleaning routine (ahahahar), try magic mushrooms (bit dangerous plus illegal nowadays so less easy).
So here’s the current list, starting with the seven I already had a year ago. (I rearranged my list.)
1. Take a photo every day – Actually I restarted this goal after dropping off for several months. I am keeping it up nowadays, and approaching 100 pictures. I love taking photos.
2. Have a little mascot travel the world for me by sending them to people for photos – It was a bit of a frenzy back then, with Little Lion on his way to Takergirl and me hosting Hector the penguin from MamaBear. Fun goal, still is. Now the pirate is in Cyprus and Little Croc (Lion got lost in NYC) will soon be leaving AugustGrey. :)
3. Learn how to play guitar – Doing just as bad as a year ago. :D
4. Start a novel – Still on. Still no more than two paragraphs. But the writing skills are improving.
5. Do more yoga – A year ago I said I needed to buy a dvd or something. Well I did that but it didn’t help zilch. I should just take lessons again!
6. Drop, push or launch gummy bears from 43 high places – Well I have certainly made progress on this goal! Gummies were launched in the US, on Madeira, in Nagasaki, from bridges in Amsterdam. Most on their own, some together with fellow victims heroes coming from other gummy killers liberators such as Happy Gavroche and Flo. Current count: 41.
7. Review goals weekly – YEP!
8. Keep a tangerine_now journal here on 43T for a while – originally intended as a place to rant, rave and vent, it is now where I post the Japan Diaries. I like doing that.
9. List three things every day that make me happy – Not a daily thing but I’m keeping it on for when I need it.
10. Complete ‘wreck this journal’ – Still not finished. Will I give up one day? I don’t like to because it is such a concise, rounded-off goal. I should be able to do this.
11. Post a six word essay every day – Originally started by Happy, this is one of my favorites.
12. Photograph answers to 20 questions about me – I should at least finish this one. No progress though.
13. See and experience more art to fill me with wonder – Not really.
14. Do the 10 things in 10 days challenge – Afraid to put up a challenge because there is a big fat chance I’ll fail. On the other hand, if you don’t try you can be sure not to succeed. So I might.
15. Meditate every day for 43 days – No. I feel I should get back to this though.
16. Release my books on bookcrossing – Only a few more books to go.
17. Budget – Meh.
18. Do more home cooking – Not really. This week I’ve had board meetings (with pizza) and End of Year Drinks (with buffet) so no eating at home anyway.
19. Kidnap the cheer fairy etc. – She is in real danger sometimes but overall I’m not too bad in cheers. Thanks to people cheering me. THANK YOU!
20. Make music again – No. That’s just it: no.
21. Post random thoughts – Some.
22. Exercise at my own level and pace and cheer others on – Doing really bad on this one.
23. File my taxes – OH MAN! How hard can it be?
24. Lose 5 pounds – Haha, I forgot I had this one on! Well, my body looks fine and I feel okay-ish. I will weigh next week or so. :p
25. Engage the mail snail on a weekly basis – Regularly, yes. Funny thing, I hear people say they have written things to me but I don’t any in the mail. Are things getting lost? Or didn’t they get sent?
26. Make a list of household chores and DO THEM – Ahahahar.
27. Make more soup – It is 30C outside, I’m not making soup this week.
28. Make a list of 43 things I know very little about and then learn at least 3 things about each of them – So far I only have the list.
29. Reflect daily in a one sentence journal – Sometimes I forget and I need to catch up.
30. Supercheer – Ooops! Forgot.
31. Make new friends – No not really. Only new acquaintances online. :)
32. Take a meditation course – For september.
33. Do a photography course – For september.
34. Look into adoption – Haven’t done this yet. Putting the goal up is already shocking enough. I need to get used to the idea.
35. Approach the task at hand with focus and sustained attention – As a result of this goal I have switched off my e-mail and phone the other day and finished my meeting notes in an hour. Hmmm, maybe I should do that now instead of fooling around on 43? Nah.
36. Learn to juggle – Don’t know why, sounds fun.
37. Own an original Wee Trouble Ant People mural – You would want one if you’d seen one! Word is one is being made especially for me. Me so lucky. :)
